Library Week in Fiji

Peter loves books, and enjoys library class at GSD. In the past, Fiji has not been a reading culture. But that is changing---- especially here at Gospel School for the Deaf. Our kids love books, and we have built up a great library!! ​










​This past week we celebrated Library Week, which ended with an all school event where students performed dramatizations of some of their favorite books.
Here are just a few:

Zunaid (left), age 13, who came to us this year from Ba Special School, dramatized one of his favorites, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Tavaita and Jacob, (right), age 10, along with their class, performed Seven Blind Mice. 

Elena (left), age 5, was Thumbalina for the day--- one of the stories read as part of her class forest literature unit this year. 

Next was Atu, age 6, as Little Boy Blue---- a favorite speech poem his class learned this year as part of their study of the farm.

​Teacher Lavenia’s class performed one of the Lars the Polar Bear stories, from their unit of study on the Polar Regions. 

The Five Foolish Fishermen was performed by our oldest students in Patricia’s class, and was a favorite that had everyone laughing. 

Prizes were given at assembly the next day, along with ice cream and book markers for each of the students.
