Arrival in Fiji

We finally arrived in Fiji on March 6th, after Jim was declared healthy enough to travel by the doctor. The timing was good, in that we managed to miss the latest nor’easter blizzard in New England, which dropped over a foot of snow and left many without power for a number of days. 

But after only 4 days here, I came down with the Australian flu, which put me down for a few days. Then Jim came down with bronchitis and cellulitis (again!); but we’re both on the mend, and were joined Thursday by our son Brendan and daughter in law Julia, who are spending their vacation here in Fiji. 

Swimming lessons have begun. After being rained out for several Friday afternoons, we decided to switch to the morning. So far that has worked out, and students are enjoying their Friday physical education classes at the Suva pool.

 Two of our graduates started high school this year. Vitorina and Jayson completed their program with us last November, and have moved on to the hearing high school with interpreters.Both are adjusting well, and have great potential.

​We also hired a new deaf teacher aide, Asena (left in photo below). We now have a total of 13 deaf working either in the school or in the hostels. Rosalina (right in photo), one of our former students from Tuvalu, came to the interview with her. You can see why Fijians are known for their beautiful smiles!
